We've started to rehearse for Project After 6: Cube Culture, a brand new HKYAF x Swire Properties musical featuring professionals and residents from the Quarry Bay area! First up in our Cube Culture series is cast member Simon Leung!
What drove you to audition for Cube Culture?
I was previously involved in one of Swire’s Project After 6 performances where I was a busker. From then I made sure I knew what was going on when it came to Swire’s performing arts projects, so when I heard that there was a musical being written about working in Tai Koo I thought I would give it a shot and audition as performing is something that I really enjoy doing.
What is your profession?
I’m a designer in an architecture firm, I design buildings and various facilities.
How long have you been at this job for?
I’ve been in the industry for almost five years, and have been with my current company for about two years. Working in one island east.
Do you have any special place in Tai Koo/ Quarry bay? Somewhere to wind down and/or relax?
I enjoy the structure of Tai Koo place. All the commercial buildings are structured in a similar way and creates a sense of a working hub. Tai Koo shares similarities with Central. Although Tai Koo place is by majority a working space, there are other outlets and shops around, always offering something to do whether it be a food stall or going to watch a performance.
Have you always been interested in performing arts?
I performed in a musical for my church in Australia where I studied. That was my first attempt at performing, and it was definitely a positive experience. Another experience I have when it comes to performing is joining my friends who go out busking on the streets of Hong Kong. We frequently jam a lot in bars just to have a bit of fun.
What would you say is your favourite musical?
I love so many musicals, but if I had to pick one it would be Mary Poppins. It is very special to me because it was the first musical I ever watched live.
